Tony's Log. Blog date 1.1.1

In the inaugural posting to my new blog, I thought I'd begin by explaining the name and purpose of such a literary event. As you all very well know, I'm leaving on February 5th to begin serving in the Peace Corps. It has been a long and winding road to get to this point, and I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to live and work abroad for a few years.

Now that we're done with all that emotional stuff, let's get down to it! I've set this up as a way to keep in contact with all of you during my adventure(s). Also because several people have made it known that they long for my patented rapier like wit, and this blog is the medium with which I hope to deliver.

The name of this blog is an homage to a local Portland man named Rick Emerson. He was a morning talk show host and it is safe to say that his humor slays me. He often opened his show proclaiming it to be an excursion into whimsy. Sadly, he was laid off late last year, and talk radio quickly became one of my least favorite things on the planet again. Next to parades, of course. You should check him out here: www.rickemerson.com

As of this writing, I have one week left in Oregon, then I fly to Philadelphia for a night, then off to Guyana. I'll try to update this as frequently as possible, depending on the availability of this wonderful series of tubes called The Internet.

These should become more entertaining as I experience more, but for now, I'll bid you all farewell.

Until next time,
Tony
